The Middle Fork Forrest property, located near Bates, Oregon will be implementing the second phase of the Vincent to Caribou restoration project on the Middle Fork John Day River this summer. The project is located between Vincent Creek and Caribou Creek. The project will seek to remove rock barbs and riprap, remove several sections of a historic railroad grade, install large wood instream habitat structures, and continue to plant and protect riparian plants. This project aims to increase fish habitat and help to improve the riparian plant community as part of the Tribes mission to restore fish stocks to harvestable levels. Phase 1 was a similar phase completed in 2017 and was closer to Vincent Creek.
The whole trees planned for installation in this project are already stockpiled at the Vincent Creek corrals. Look for project work to begin in July 2020. Project should be completed by mid-August.
